New Class of Navy Carriers Will Forego Urinals | Advocate.com
Is this going to be the trend nowadays? unisexual toilets allow them to be switched to men and women. and since women always take so long to do their business hence the long queues at women toilets, it will inevitably mean that men's toilets will be switched to women's at busy times. that means men will find they have to wait longer.
I think the navy going unisexual is a special case. they are now forced to recruit women and by law will have to reserve toilets for women, even though there may be only two of them on board.haha. to keep separate toilets for women will mean less for the men, and since men outnumber the women it would be hellish. so by making it unisexual, this problem is taken away.
I was using the toilets in trafalgar square during the World pride festival , and the sign says the toilets are unisexual. (though strangely enough no women were at the men's queue. however, i did see some women emerge from the men's toilet.
There was a long queue at the women toilet, and significantly it was not moving, whilst the men's toilet has a shorter queue and moving v fast. further on, i noticed the queue split into two for those who want to use the urinals and those who want to use the cubicles.
and that was where the difference became apparent. those of us who just want to use the urinals got on very quickly.
it puzzles me why the men want to use the cubicles. surely not all of them want to do a number 2.!! or want to refresh their makeup.
I know you will say there are some guys who are piss shy and cannot urinate next to other people. but so many of them?? the queue for the cubicles was long and hardly moving. because once u are inside those cubicles i will bet you will tend to linger, even if it is to admire yourself in the mirror after you have done pissing.haha.
I just have a thought. You remember those pictures of the roman toilet in pompeii, which shows holes all in a row and it was said that they do it communally... we all assume it was doing number 2s, but maybe the roman men piss while sitting down, (if i were wearing a toga, i too will want to piss sitting down, so as not to splash my toga. )and not standing up like we do nowadays. and that those places are men only. so it sounds reasonable that they dont have cubicles separating the holes. it makes sense then those communal toilets.
that is why i hope urinals remain. in the article the excuse was given that urinals are harder to clean than wc. that is nonsense of course.
it is no different to clean a urinal than a toilet, and also it uses less water, as u dont have to flush it everytime.
urinals also discourage loiterers, when it is really busy, because there is a long gueue of guys looking impatiently and angrily at you if u linger on.
there will always be some guys wanting to cruise in the toilets and they tend to wait for the cubicles, it gives them an excuse to loiter ... so my tip when u go into a men toilet and see a long gueue there is to barge straight to the front, because the urinals will be available and there is no need to wait, if all you want is to piss.
it is optional if you want to make loud remarks about why are there so many wanting to do a number 2. haha.

world pride
london
Tried to download videos i made of it, but i think it was too big, and they did not come out right. so i have to delete the whole post.
ah well, nevermind. haha.
it was quite a nice march, actually, without the floats. Granted some of the oldies could not march, as they were not able to ride on the floats... so they stood on the sidelines near trafalgar square.
i noticed there were a lot of gay people looking on along the route. quite unusual, because in most processions, like the naked bike ride, the spectators were all non nudists.
i stood on the sidelines too, watching the parade, whilst waiting for the GOC contingent to come round. and it is much more fun watching on the sidelines as u can see everyone marching by.
and because there were no floats, the barriers were non existent, and we can be closer to the marchers.
I found walking in front of the GOC, a sunday walking gay group.gswg.com their banner says they started in 1972, as long as the pride parades. i have been walking with them long ago, and remember the wonderful tea at the end of the walk, given courtesy of the organiser, and when i asked one of the walkers , it seems it still goes on. the tea at the end is really good. its an achievement to be still going on after all these years.
i still prefer to walk naked, so all these gay walking clothed groups do not appeal so much to me as the naked group run by SOC. that one is not gay but linked with BN(british naturism). Their main object was to enable single men to be admitted to the nudist resorts in uk. i think BN is loosening its restrictions of single men joining in their activities. for eg, they have a naked swim in ULU, but that is closed now due to renovations. it is expected to open in autumn, and i shall go then. it is rare now to get naked swimming in london what with the closure of so many pools for renovation, and not renewing their arrangement with the naked swim sessions.
as with all these nudist resorts, they are having a ageing membership and not attracting new members.
i saw on channel 5tv recently in the hotel inspector , alex pollizzi trying to help a nudist hotel stay open in birmingham, clover spa.
the owner wants to make it nudity only... and struggling. alex polizzi brought in some publicity and i hope with that they will succeed. i think maybe to be realistic he mightbe better to sell it as a clothes optional hotel. i have a feeling he will only get men. what i noticed in his website now is that he offers people a chance to subscribe to a annual membership as day visitors.it might catch on as his garden is now very much improved.
so i got the website address of the gaysundaywalking group and i might join them again. in the past they walk near london, but i think they have moved further afield now.
if linked to rail journeys, it can be quite expensive because rail fares have gone up a lot. what is needed is one guy to have a car, or 4 of us to hire a car.
Added. the rail prices seem to vary. i have checked day return on the railonline for my naked walk on july21st. and i got £25 rtn, but lately i have rechecked, and found the ticket price is £13.40 rtn. however, i shall go to the station to buy the rtn ticket as the online booking wants a specific time for the return journey and i wont know when i return, as the group will have a dinner after the walk.
most of these walking groups seem to cater to oldish guys. and the british weather is really not conducive to naked walking or , for that matter, even clothed outdoor activities. u have to be really dedicated to keep with it.
Added. it just goes to show what u can learn from just observing. some of those guys naked walking have been doing so for years, and they are in their 70s or 80s, which makes u realise that age is not a barrier to leading an active life. all those pictures u see in the press or articles about house bound old people, in wheel chairs, must not lead you to believe that just because u are old, does not mean old people are helpless.
it rained a bit at the beginning of the march, and in between, but it was fine at trafalgar square.
I did not go to soho, so did not know whether the lack of stage shows in soho affected the numbers. maybe not, as the gay guys will go into the pubs , no shows to keep them in the streets. the pubs will get better business. and i completely forgot about the afternoon tea laid on by the GOC at the quaker hall near st martin's lane.
i prefer we do without the floats for the parade. there was no need to put up metal barriers along the street this time, and that must save a lot of money.
u might say why save money? it means that pride can remain free for us all. once u let in the commercial people, they will charge pride to stage all this, and then before we know it, Pride will impose a charge on us to pay for it.
so lets keep them from making it commercial and making a profit out of it. a simple protest march will not cost much and police and glc wont charge us for it if it is a protest march.
Added. 14.7.12 today is gay nudist day and it would be great if one day we are represented in gaypride. here is a link featuring some of the minority gay groups that marched in the worldpride recently.

london
My indoor nhs leaflet thermometer actually showed 24C today. And the weather website for london showed highest temp today was 29C. So it is a nice hot day.
Thank goodness tomorrow it will get back to normal, 20C.
people here do not know that they live in a ideal place where these high temperatures are not common. if u have it everyday for 3months, u will soon get sick of such high temperatures. but you tell that to people here and they would think u are a weirdo.
This high temperature , 29C is wonderful if u are on holiday and staying at the place for only 1wk, or 2wks. and you dont want it to rain.
But i am sure all those natives in spain, france or italy that have this mediterranean climate of hot dry summers and wet winters must be suffering . In fact, i know a friend who has gone to torrevieja to live , comes back to uk during the summer to escape the fierce heat there. the winters are v nice, and that is when he really enjoys his time there. Perhaps people should just winter there, like we hear of pensioners doing that to save on heating.
i read in the pink paper today that world pride this year will be scaled down to save money. Money is always a problem with these things. This year there wont be floats during the parade, it will be a march starting at 11am instead... very much going back to the original roots where we used to be the parade, just gay guys marching... no floats.
We would carry banners calling for gay equality and the message was very political. Now we have allready got most of what we wanted, so there is less emphasis on the politics.
Perhaps groups should use it to advertise themselves and to gain members.
what makes it different from any other pride, i wonder. (found out it is the 40th anniversary of the first pride march in 1972)this is supposed to be world pride too, but I can never figure out what that means. no countries have sent a dedicated gay contingency. most of us cannot afford to travel to another country every year to celebrate pride there.
and funnily enough none of us here want to march under our country of origin. london has many gay people from all over the world living here and it is feasible to have them march under their country's banner. but i think we are not that bothered, as none of us really identify with our home country, many in fact may be disowned by their country for being gay anyway.
When we march it is to celebrate ourselves and our coming out... it is v personal, each person will march to state their own personal reasons, nothing to do with where we come from. it is to celebrate what we are now, and where we will be in future.
maybe that is why i dont march anymore. i have nothing to affirm, being gay is so normal to me now there is no need for me to affirm it...
i shall most probably watch in the sidelines, and then go to trafalgar square or soho square and enjoy being in the middle of this annual largest gathering of gay people in one place.
it is a wonderful chance for those who just come out and starting on their fabulous gay adventure to march on that day. i know it was a great feeling when i did it so long ago.
Added.4.7.12 i shall be marching with the GOC, (gay outdoor club) as i feel now that there are no floats and we are back to the olden days when it is only us marching... i shall show up to support it. i think this year will be a good march and celebration as it will be us making it happen, the emphasis is on the people rather than shows and performers and floats. before in the past with all those shows, we are just spectators, now we are the main attraction as it should be.
