london
We all know of how beliefs are based on oral history... which is what the religious books are based on.
but oral history can be meddled with.
take for eg this one which i read in the TAles of the
Arabian nights
Two women belonging to one man conceived on the same day, and were delivered,
one of a boy, the other of a girl, at the same time, and in one apartment. The
female infant died, when each laid claim to the male child. The magistrates,
unable to decide between the mothers, referred the decision to the just vizier;
who, on hearing the circumstances, commanded two eggs to be brought, and the
contents to be drawn out without breaking the shells; after which he ordered
them to be filled with milk from the breast of each woman. This being done, he
placed the shells in separate scales, and finding one outweigh the other,
declared that she whose milk was heaviest must be the mother of the male child;
but the other woman was not satisfied with this decision, and still affirmed she
was the mother of the boy.
The vizier, vexed at her obstinacy, now
commanded the infant to be cut in two; when she, whom he had said was the
mother, fell into agonies, and besought its life; but the other was unmoved, and
assented to the death of the child. He then ordered her to be severely punished,
and committed the boy to its afflicted mother. On being asked on what proofs he
had grounded his decision, he replied, "On two: the first, because the milk of a
woman having produced a male child is always heavier than that of the mother of
a female infant: the second, because the pretended mother consented to the boy's
death; and I supposed it impossible for a woman to agree to the destruction of
her offspring, which is a part of herself."
from vol 4, story of the bang-eater and his wife.
Doesn't it sound familiar? i know it as the judgement of solomon.
Well, it looks like this is a old tale that has been attributed to different people according to the whim of the story teller.
i daresay there must exist another version attributed to christ, or to mohammed, or to buddha except that those versions were not written down or if they were they are not found.
there are some tales that are classics.
i wonder if the fairy tales we read in grimms fairy tales have this origin as well.
they are stories told round fireplaces in winter to amuse folks and the tales are re written and altered to suit the audience.
it would not surprise me to learn that the stories in the bible or other religous books are well known tales told and embellished down the ages as favourite stories in the repetoire of the story tellers.
john and i went to camden market yesterday and we were very pleasantly surprised at how nice it is.
we thought it is a tourist trap, but it isn't. no wonder i hear tourists say they like going there.
u can buy hoodies for £5, cheaper if u buy two. that is a v good price.
and the market has expanded beyond all recognition from my time. i havent been there for many years and there are now a vast number of shops.
we did not see them all even though we were there for about 3.5hrs.
i met a black woman sitting in one of the benches who told me she lives nearby and go there often just to sit there to see the crowds and feel the buzz.
she said it is much better than going to the museums or art galleries as what she sees is real life being enacted in front of her.
and i found a hardware shop near the station that sells just the rubber hot water bottles without covers for £3. quite the cheapest price i have seen so far.
i got a cover , so dont have to buy one with a cover. boots is selling those for about £7.
john and i went to a private naked party in south london in zone 4. we took the train from vauxhall, and john was pleased that it only cost £1.80 single using his oyster card.
we know the hosts and have been before. in fact it was quite some time since i was there but quite a number of guys there recognised me and remembered me. hmm, was i so outstanding? i am afraid i dont remember them but then i am not very good at remembering people.
haha, i did not even recognise this guy i was having sex with at the room upstairs when i saw him again downstairs afterwards. he reminded me of it and said to me i guess one face looks like another in the dark.... haha. and he said he forgives me. i laughed it off because it happens so often with me i have long ago stopped being embarrassed about it. haha. and thought thank goodness he is easy about it.
it was not dark in the room where we had it off , but it is true i dont really look at the face , but at the body and cock when i am sexing someone. anyway it was an orgy with other guys so i did not really pay attention to their faces.
well, it is the fun of these orgies that u dont really have to recognise people. i think it better if you can forget that u know them, so u can pretend u have met them for the first time and everything about them is new and just live for the moment and enjoy their bodies and give and receive pleasure from them.
at least that is how i view these orgies. no need to be shy or anything, just do what u like and dont care how you appear to others. haha. that is my take on it and if u do likewise u will enjoy yourself enormously. and another thing, try everybody who makes the approach to you. even if they are not your type. you might be pleasantly surprised.
another day john and i went on the buses to explore london. apart from going to museums, or shopping, and looking at the touristsights ; which we are not that interested; there is surprisngly not a lot to do.
so here we have free bus passes and dont really have anywhere we really want to go.
we ended up in the british museum and happened to see the Roman chalice depicting the fucking scene by two guys . it was very graphic showing the cock going into the arse.
that part of the warren cup was not shown in the tv series about roman art that was shown recently.
i am glad i saw it, all by accident. it was on the 3rd level, around the low gallery number 70 or so,u can see the pictures of it here
oh, just this morning AVG informed me to download the AVG2013 , to allow me to continue using AVG free for next year. rather nice of them to allow me to continue using it free.
Added 2.10.12 my talktalk allows me to pay my line rental yearly at a discount. it is £9.50 a month instead of the usual rate of about £13 something. i renewed it today.
Added. 1.10.12
Yesterday, john went to the church near me. we met some chinese boys outside that church 2wks ago when john was here and they told us about the church service on sunday. it is an evangelical church.
i was not interested but when john told me they give free lunch for newcomers after the service, i decided i shall go and join john at 12.30pm when the service ends (it was 2hrs long!) and get the lunch. haha.
it was quite a nice lunch , nasi lemak, though the rice was not coconut rice; later i was told that there might be laksa... and it costs £2.50 if u are a regular.
sounds good, haha. i told the guy who informed us of it that i dont mind coming for the lunch if it is laksa. though for that price i doubt it is truely laksa.
anyway, we were seated with 3others, one of them is malaysian, and he had been before and had brought two girls, one singaporean, the other south korean, who were studying in his class in kings college.
there were lots of s.e.asian people, and some blacks. but not many whites. john was the only white i can see there.
long ago, i attended a service there, it has a huge central hall with a glass roof which makes it a very nice venue. there were lotsof white people there then, but things have changed. and at one time, i used to see lots of blacks coming out after their service. so it looks like the congregation have changed over the years.
the pastor who sat with us, was malaysian, and in answer to john asking him who funds them, told us that in 1999, they bought the place for about £2million . they got a donation from someone who had a child studying in london and he attended for 4sessions and decided to donate one for one up to £280,000. so they raised £560,000 which they use as a deposit, and got a loan for the rest. and now they own theplace. they must have got rich backers to afford the mortgage.
it was a good move that.
the people are really friendly and if i were a malaysian away from home, it would be very appealing to join them and make friends with fellow malaysians and other races . pity there were no local white guys there.
and of course these places are not gay friendly. i wonder if they will be so welcoming to us if they know we are gay. haha. that is what make me hesitate to get more involved. and it can get a bit tiring to hear these people keep on about how jesus has made them happier.
i am not really into evangelical lifestyles. i dont like to tell people what is good for them. haha. so i wont make a good evangelical .
but their lunches might make me visit them now and then. haha. just joking. if anything the sermon might make me come back if what john says is true.
john said the first half of the service was rather loud, because of the music . they were playing guitars and stuff. i prefer organ playing instead of drums.
but he said the sermon was rather good, unlike catholic sermons. I find it is actually worth it to go to these services for the sermons. i went to a mormon service in knightsbridge long ago, and the sermon was very good, and people come up and chat with you , unlike in a catholic church, which do not provide food . but as a catholic u are supposed to go every sunday so i guess the church dont feel obliged to make it a attractive event . the church just say it is a sin not to go every sunday. haha. they have the perfect answer to everything they dont like, by saying it is a sin. this is not only confined to the catholic church. every religious order do this. the jews , islam, etc etc. maybe the buddhists dont do it so much though they are all very strong on ritual and that is being strict about doing it right.
i supposed it is a pleasant way to spend a sunday .
the church has a mandarin service too, after the main one , and has a kids service and a creche.
i daresay if i had not read conversations with god by neale walsch i too would be looking at these places for answers. but i know what life is all about and so i dont have to rely on a god prop.

the new squatter law in force
london
REad this today about a guy who was jailed for squatting. he must have got a letter sent to him stating they willbe coming to the property to arrest him if he is there, but i guess he was too naive or silly to go away.
AS usual it was a small fry caught in the net that was supposed to catch the professional crooks from the eastern european countries who have been using the old squatter law to rent out homes to people illegally.
when the owners come back they find their homes that are occupied, or have been rented out and the renters refuse to leave as they have paid the rent.
the crooks have long ago left the scene. so the law does not really catch them.
now the law have caught a small fry but it might discourage the crooks who take over and do up a empty property to rent it out to others. they might be prevented in upgrading the property and be caught before they let it out to others. that is the only window of chance to catch them.
even then, the police sent a letter to warn them they will be coming, giving them plenty of chance to run off.
i know the police sent a letter of warning because i read one article , mentioning that the long time squatter had left when the police arrived to evict him and so he escaped prosecution. this young lad is too naive or foolish to ignore the warning and stayed on.
as usual, the real professional crook never get caught.
those buggers from europe have seen a loophole in the law but exploited it. in doing it they have shafted all the local homeless who used to squat legally.
in the past, the homeless could take over a empty property and stay there and look after it as it were and they would move peaceably if they are told to do so,when the owners finally get round to doing it up; and so there was never any trouble.
but when those eastern european buggers came onto the scene, and they are big time crooks , they have so created a situation where people have found their homes occupied when they come back from their holidays and/or found new tenants living there who had been fooled by the crooks into thinking it is a legal let; so u get both sides being wronged. so naturally those who have been fooled into paying rent take it out on the property by trashing it before they go. such a lot of ill feeling all round, whilst the crooks have long taken the money and disappeared.
so this law is enacted. and all the homeless get shafted.
it is the same with the bargain food in supermarkets. so many of these eastern europeans go and take the foods en masse leaving nothing behind, and generating food fights in some places that this practise of reducing foods have been abandoned by the supermarkets and we who have been using it have lost out.
i know the supermarkets near me have abandoned this reduced food policy .
u might say hang on, are u not accusing the wrong people or eastern europeans in general for the wrongdoing of a few of their countrymen?
yes i say and so i should.
allyou buggers from overseas , if u catch any of your fellow countrymen doing bad things u should scold them stronglly for it because your reputation is also being ruined.
that is why we all dont like nigerians ... because of so many being caught out or being sent scam mails by nigerians or websites based in nigeria.
u might say that is being unfair to other law abiding nigerians. well the nigerian govt should clamp down on these scammers or nigerians will forever be tarred with the same brush.
so now it is the same with the romanians, bulgarians et al. they are all tarred with being crooks because of these activities of these big time crooks who have come here
Well, here is another example of how a few can ruin it for the majority.
there have been a lot of under 35yrs old nigerian women who have used the pilgrimage to gain entry into saudi and stay illegally afterwards, and so the saudi govt has prevented them from entering, and now the nigerian govt has suspended the pilgrimage flights.
nigerian women dont have to change their names to their husbands, and so travel with passports that are not the same surname as their husbands. but this can lead to abuse, and has done in this case.
and the end result is saudi banned these women under 45yrs old whose name do not coincide with their supposed husbands from entering the country.
the article
that country is full of inequalities, with v rich people and many fucked up poor. that is not saying much because practically every country in the world can be described like that.
you know the opposite is true too. if your fellow country men are nice you will benefit. this happened to me when i first came to this country. the landlords are very willing to let to us malaysians, because they had very good experience with malaysians, who come here to study.
many times when they find out i was malaysian i got very good response and help from the locals.

happy position
london
I am now in a happy position of too many activities to chose from that i want to do wishing i could split myself into two or three people so i can do them.
it is a lot like the rich with so many cars and houses and possessions he just cannot do them all. and have to select or in despair neglect to experience them in the end and leaving his cars and houses unattended and lying abandoned.
i can go swimming , go to the gym as the new gym i have joined has opened its doors. i also want to roam london, visit friends, make new friends, go to the library to borrow books and find time to read them, read the newspapers in the library as well as online.
so many things to do, and i am in this happy time in my life when i can pick and chose. it is a nice life.
and i can still enjoy the occasional freebie, like the free coffee given out in a voucher in the telegraph by uppercrust, the sandwich chain that operates in stations. they have two branch in victoria, and i used both of them to get my free coffee... it seems the vouchers are available each day. i have been trying out their mocha, and i have the medium cup, but ok it is free so i should not complain, but i think it is rather dilute.
maybe the small cup will be more tasteful. though i would have thought that they should increase the amount of coffee and chocolate if the cup is bigger. the small costs £2.35, medium £2.60.
i should not criticise of course as it is free, but if i were to pay i think i wont like it.
they are a pricey chain, their baguette sandwiches are like £4 each. granted other sandwich shops sell sliced bread whilst they seem to go for baguettes.
of course it is way cheaper if u just buy the baguettes and make them yourself. as making your own coffee and putting it in a thermos to drink later.
if u cook yourself, you can have stir fry rice or noodles and any variety of dishes for your lunch and all at a fraction of the cost.
do anyone make their own lunch nowadays?
There are a lot of pop up hawker like stalls selling lunch in and around london these days. they are about £5.
I still think it is pricey.
but then i am so used to cooking my own meals, it is easy for me to do and i just cannot bring myself to buy. my own cooking tastes so much better than anything i can buy.
the only thing i might buy is a whopper at burgerking but that is because i found a voucher for a 2for1 offer in one of the tabloid newspaper. that is quite a good voucher offer. i shall wait for john to come visit me and we can get a whopper each using that voucher.
Added 28.9.12 john and i went to theis burgerking after our naked night out and used the 2for1 voucher for a whopper and royale sandwich. john wanted the sandwich. i wanted the whopper.
i used to like the whopper but i had not eaten one for about 10yrs, (i think as it is so long i forgot when exactly)and this one is strangely lacking. it still had the lovely chargrilled taste, but there was no cheese, nor mayonnaise dressing, nor onion rings or gherkins(if there were any there were too few to taste) and not much salad. it looked strangely empty whilst i remember in the past it was rather full of stuff.
and john said his chicken royale was rather tasteless.
whilst there , two guys were eating a hamburger which has double meat in it. i asked them how much... £2, and it was the special on offer. he said the poster outside will tells what is what on any day.
later when we left , we saw the poster, and it list the various days and telling what is offerred .
our meal came to £3.89 so it came to about £2 each and that is with the voucher. price has gone up a lot since i last bought a whopper. it was about £2.60 or so then.
i think the daily specials are a good offer if u like eating there.
but me, i think i shall make my own pack lunch.
john is finding a lot of reasons to come down to london now. within this two months he is visiting me 3times.
i must warn him to bring his water bottle and long johns when he comes in oct as it might get cold and i dont have the heating.
Well that is what any visitors to my place should accept if they want to stay at my place. haha.
john is coming to attend naked parties on each occasion.
and we shall most probably go to the naked sex clubs again.
added 28.9.12
we went to the sex club last night. we wanted to go to the naked night after 7pm and thought since john wants to play in the cubicle before it gets busy we shall go before 7pm when we thought it will be underwear . also we can get in for £6 .
it turned out it was not an underwear , and that we can change into naked after 7pm by going to the cloakroom to retrieve our basket.
john told me he was busy in the cubicle having great fun, taking it in turns with a young guy who is danish looking and tall when one of the staff came knocking and announcing that everyone should get naked.
so it looked like we have stumbled on a cost saving tip. go there before 7pm and save £1. haha.
u can still get a lot of fun , in the cubicles, whilst waiting for the full fledge naked fun later.
i saw two guys i know there. one of them is a friend who told me about this place. he came up and chatted and i said do u know this is the first time i have seen u naked. and i grabbed his cock and said it looks good too. he has a big one even though not erect. always a good visual thing in a sex club.haha. he is not on viagra he said so cannot walk around with a huge hard -on like a lot of the other guys there.
i know plenty of guys will freak out when they see their social friends naked at a place like this, and i know a few of our mutual friends will be most embarrassed if they see us there.
lucky our friend was not shy about it, even though he is not really a social nudist. he said he much preferred the underwear night, like the one on wednesday. he said it was really busy.
simon was telling me that a pint of beer now costs £5 in pubs so that made me think this club is really good value for money. in that the £6 entry gives u a free drink and free cloakroom.
simon said they basically are giving u free entry for the price of a drink and cloakroom. no wonder they are so popular. and so central too.
i wonder how the ordinary pubs survive if they are charging so much for nothing else. no sex or anything.
would u hang around a pub, even a gay one just to socialise with other gay guys and no chance of getting it off with them? maybe if it has a toilet where u can... otherwise why? it is too much hassle to go back to his place or your place. and to make a date later is doomed to failure as he most probably wont turn up. you have to catch a guy when he is horny, otherwise he wont be interested.
maybe there are some who like to date and have romantic dinners etc. but frankly i myself wont want to bother as it is a waste of time and money when we can get straight down to it and enjoy the sex.haha.
places like this sex club are popular because u can have lotsof different types of men to play with everytime u go. london is so large and full of visitors from overseas as well as in the rest of the country there is no danger of just having the same guys appear all the time.
in the past, these sex clubs will be outside westminster boroush because westminster in those days refuse to license such clubs, but obviously they have changed their policy.
when shops are closing westminster must realise they cannot be too choosy who they license. haha.
so my wish to have the city centre become a red light district may well come true. haha.
i dont go to pubs haha. but then i dont drink. and have not gone to one even so, because nothing happens there. it is damn difficult to chat to guys in a pub, either the music is too loud or the guys are cruising and not interested in chat.
it is marginally easier to chat guys up in coffee shops. and coffee is cheaper than beer though not by much. even then it is only possible to chat to guys who are sitting near u. it takes a brave soul to approach someone out of the blue sitting some distance away.
if u get rejected it is so obvious and embarrassing.
and this is only conversation. and i have reached a time of my life when i dont want to waste time chatting when i can go straight to the sex. haha. i dare say a lot of us gay guys think like this. at least those of us who are long time on the scene.
only the new comers want to chat and know more about that person before they have sex with them. it is something i too used to think i want haha. long ago in my naive days. now of course i found out u dont have to know anything about that person to enjoy great sex with him. in fact it is better not to know too much about him.haha.
then it is important to just move away to another part of the place. dont go to the next guy and chat him up because u might find that guy wont want to be seen to be second best.
the reason why i say this is because it happened to me last night. no,i was not the one who was rejected, but i was sitting across from someone who was wanking his hardon and a black guy came up to him and made to suck him and he gestured no and the black guy came to sit next to me instead and i left him.
i think i should not have done that but to talk to him for a bit. after all the guy is allready embarassed at being rejected not to have to get rejected again by me, and he only wanted conversation.
i feel bad about that. i hope he will not take it personally. which is the kind of advise i would give to any one who finds himself in the same situation.
I am now in a happy position of too many activities to chose from that i want to do wishing i could split myself into two or three people so i can do them.
it is a lot like the rich with so many cars and houses and possessions he just cannot do them all. and have to select or in despair neglect to experience them in the end and leaving his cars and houses unattended and lying abandoned.

it turned out it was not an underwear , and that we can change into naked after 7pm by going to the cloakroom to retrieve our basket.
john told me he was busy in the cubicle having great fun, taking it in turns with a young guy who is danish looking and tall when one of the staff came knocking and announcing that everyone should get naked.
so it looked like we have stumbled on a cost saving tip. go there before 7pm and save £1. haha.
u can still get a lot of fun , in the cubicles, whilst waiting for the full fledge naked fun later.
i saw two guys i know there. one of them is a friend who told me about this place. he came up and chatted and i said do u know this is the first time i have seen u naked. and i grabbed his cock and said it looks good too. he has a big one even though not erect. always a good visual thing in a sex club.haha. he is not on viagra he said so cannot walk around with a huge hard -on like a lot of the other guys there.
i know plenty of guys will freak out when they see their social friends naked at a place like this, and i know a few of our mutual friends will be most embarrassed if they see us there.
lucky our friend was not shy about it, even though he is not really a social nudist. he said he much preferred the underwear night, like the one on wednesday. he said it was really busy.
simon was telling me that a pint of beer now costs £5 in pubs so that made me think this club is really good value for money. in that the £6 entry gives u a free drink and free cloakroom.
simon said they basically are giving u free entry for the price of a drink and cloakroom. no wonder they are so popular. and so central too.
i wonder how the ordinary pubs survive if they are charging so much for nothing else. no sex or anything.
would u hang around a pub, even a gay one just to socialise with other gay guys and no chance of getting it off with them? maybe if it has a toilet where u can... otherwise why? it is too much hassle to go back to his place or your place. and to make a date later is doomed to failure as he most probably wont turn up. you have to catch a guy when he is horny, otherwise he wont be interested.
maybe there are some who like to date and have romantic dinners etc. but frankly i myself wont want to bother as it is a waste of time and money when we can get straight down to it and enjoy the sex.haha.
places like this sex club are popular because u can have lotsof different types of men to play with everytime u go. london is so large and full of visitors from overseas as well as in the rest of the country there is no danger of just having the same guys appear all the time.
in the past, these sex clubs will be outside westminster boroush because westminster in those days refuse to license such clubs, but obviously they have changed their policy.
when shops are closing westminster must realise they cannot be too choosy who they license. haha.
so my wish to have the city centre become a red light district may well come true. haha.
i dont go to pubs haha. but then i dont drink. and have not gone to one even so, because nothing happens there. it is damn difficult to chat to guys in a pub, either the music is too loud or the guys are cruising and not interested in chat.
it is marginally easier to chat guys up in coffee shops. and coffee is cheaper than beer though not by much. even then it is only possible to chat to guys who are sitting near u. it takes a brave soul to approach someone out of the blue sitting some distance away.
if u get rejected it is so obvious and embarrassing.
and this is only conversation. and i have reached a time of my life when i dont want to waste time chatting when i can go straight to the sex. haha. i dare say a lot of us gay guys think like this. at least those of us who are long time on the scene.
only the new comers want to chat and know more about that person before they have sex with them. it is something i too used to think i want haha. long ago in my naive days. now of course i found out u dont have to know anything about that person to enjoy great sex with him. in fact it is better not to know too much about him.haha.
then it is important to just move away to another part of the place. dont go to the next guy and chat him up because u might find that guy wont want to be seen to be second best.
the reason why i say this is because it happened to me last night. no,i was not the one who was rejected, but i was sitting across from someone who was wanking his hardon and a black guy came up to him and made to suck him and he gestured no and the black guy came to sit next to me instead and i left him.
i think i should not have done that but to talk to him for a bit. after all the guy is allready embarassed at being rejected not to have to get rejected again by me, and he only wanted conversation.
i feel bad about that. i hope he will not take it personally. which is the kind of advise i would give to any one who finds himself in the same situation.

unintended consequences qantas-emirates
london
I had read that qantas has changed alliances and done a 10yr linkage with emirates airline, who are based in dubai so that it now do not use singapore for refuelling and transit. i thought nothing of it.
but this article warning of the dangers to gays, singles, unmarrieds, jews, christians, who inadvertantly fall foul of dubai's extremely unfriendly laws might make us reconsider whether we want to go through dubai.
one might also add women to this list.
it is not a case of deliberately flouting their laws, but the fact that what might be normal behaviour to us may be illegal there.
it reminds me of that gay cruise to the caribbean islands, when a gay couple who were naked outside their balcony when the ship was docked in harbour were arrested.
it is v easy to forget that u are naked in a place that dont like it, when u have been naked all the time during the cruise.
the company obviously do not want to warn their passengers about it as it would make a lot of people change their minds about going on the cruise if there are such restrictions and warnings of being arrested and taken off the ship at these ports.
qantas will certainly not warn their passengers about behaving themselves when in dubai transit. for eg, would passengers be restricted in eating pork on flight or eating during ramadan at the airport lounge? all it needs is for a local to make a complaint. the fact that no local has made a complaint does not mean it wont happen.
maybe it is not something that will happen and so no need to worry about it. but if it does happen no one can help you as it is clearly against their law. the fact they implement it in a haphazard and random fashion makes it all the more dangerous because all it takes is a bigoted local and a official who had taken a personal dislike for you to land you in hot water.
or u refuse to give them a bribe to forget about it.
come to think of it, many might be tempted to accuse u just so u can buy them off though there are so many religious bigots in those countries it won't be difficult to find someone who will find something in your behaviour or dress to object to in the name of religion.
A good eg is the way a woman dresses. though that one do not produce a fine and money to change hands but a harassment of women to make them conform or shame them.
Or what is more likely the official who the complaint is made to would arrest you and then tell you there is a fine to pay which you pay rather than go to jail and he may or may not keep the fine himself without recording it. this kind of law allows a lot of ways for officials to make money. it is a blackmailer's charter.
it would not surprise me if many have been accused and the case never came to court because they have paid the bribe to have the accusation dropped.
i bet qantas never thought of the unintended consequences of their actions in allying with emirates. haha.
in fact until the arabic countries changes their laws, their bid to make dubai or abu dhabi the transit hub of the world will fail. the airlines might want it, but i think the laws of their countries will be the limiting factor in their bid to be world players.
London was worried about losing its hub traffic if it did not build another runway in heathrow, but i think this particular fear of dubai's laws will limit their airlines ambition of making the middle east a major hub . Uk is such a popular hub because we have very liberal laws.
it is easy to laugh it off and say what nonsense, no one will be arrested in a dubai transit lounge. but the trouble is any local can accuse a visitor of infringing the laws and they will be listened to. also visitors might be tempted to go out into town to while away the time during a long transit and unknowingly fall foul of their laws.
just being caught eating in public (which a lot of us tend to do eating on the trot as it were) during ramadan will land u in jail if a local is nasty enough to accuse u and an official is skint that day or it being close to their new year he wants more money for the upcoming celebrations.
We are fortunate living in uk that we never have to contend with bribery in our daily lives or dealing with people in authority.
in countries elsewhere esp in the middle east or in asia, it is difficult to see the signs whether u are expected to offer a bribe or not. officially no bribery is allowed but we all know it can be disguised by a clever operator , both in offering it and in receiving it.
in those countries u soon learn to be an expert in it , in how u operate or who u bribe; or u will never get on.
The west is so unskilled in the art of bribery that when they do business in those countries where it is rife they become an embarrassment to the locals when their attempts at it is so cack handed it is positively painful to see them operate.
They are a bit like that person who is new to tipping, and either tips too much or too little or offer to tip in the most inappropriate places (though with the latter, most will just take the tip haha. unless you are japanese , or chinese in those so olden days before they too fell into the western habit of expecting a tip for doing their job).
I remember reading of a chinese waitress who ran after a customer to return his tip, thinking he had forgotten his change. that was so long ago in china's innocent days before it learnt that tourists are fair game.

saw this video of a confrontation filmed by a woman told to leave a shopping mall (because she was wearing nail polish)in saudi arabia by the religious police. (added. that video is blocked now. but trust the internet to sidestep these attempts at censorship. here is a article with a link to see it though it has no translation.)
it seems the original video had many comments condemning the woman. u would think majority would support her. but no. human beings are strange creatures. i bet u those who oppose her are the men. after all the men got it real cushy in these arabic countries. they are regarded as little gods and able to boss their women about. who wont like that haha. i suppose given a amazonian society where women rules they too will trod on their men. i am cynical enough to believe that women too will be just as abusive of their power if they rule.
it has publicised it so effectively that now they have restricted their powers of arrest and raid.
so you could say that is something good about twitter or facebook, it enables the world to see these petty bullying in the guise of religion and is a way for women to highlight their harassment by these people.

bring back the red light district
london
I saw this article in the bbc news
Town centres will need to market themselves as convenient hubs for picking up products ordered online if they are to thrive into the next decade, a report says.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19679104
I wonder why people must always automatically think that town centres means providing more shopping centres, selling things to people. why not services? and i dont mean hairdressing haha.
It got me to thinking why not make town centres have red light districts.
after all, look at all the big cities that have grown big... they all have red light districts, soho in london, and redlight district in amsterdam, berlin, etc, etc.
I bet u they all started with these red light districts and that drew the crowds and then businesses for food to feed the crowds and so on.
and it could cater to all sexualities.
in the past the red light districts were restricted to the straight clientele, but we are living in a age of liberation, and so can embrace gays, nudists, and any thing u can think of.
that means any amount of fetish and sexual practises.
And it does not mean that they should be commercial premises.
thus we can have a gay centre full of streets like mazes and glory holes for guys to cruise as well as gay sex clubs, discos, porn shops etc.
and toilets specially designed for cruising.
and we can cater to nudists too by having an area with streets and shops where u can be clothes optional.
as well as an area for straights and transvestites.
and it will attract a vast crowd of eager customers, both gay and straight, and businesses will follow to cater to this crowd, so restaurants, cafes etc will follow.
most people are horrified because they keep thinking that town centres should be children friendly.
but that is a fallacy.
children have no business in town centres.
they should be kept in the suburbs where they have quiet fields etc to play in
towns should be for adults.
once we change our attitude to making town centres adults only, we can make things happen.

royal albert tea party
london
I got an email from the evening standard telling me of a free tea party organised by royalalbert.com
they have got a new range of designs for tea things and want to advertise it by holding tea parties in various places as pop ups.
i went there this morning in golden square and it is very pleasant. they dont mind anyone joining them. u just sit on the tables all set up with the tea things and cakes and macaroons. it is the first time i ate macaroons, i have heard a lot of them by bloggers saying how wonderful they are.
but now i have tasted them i dont see what the fuss is about. i asked a lady who was seated at my table, and she said it is soft as if that is a recommendation.
i would prefer them crisp. do u think the ones i had have gone off? the fresh ones are crisp maybe.
it was v sweet.
too sweet really but goes very well with the tea.
the cups are really very nice, with patterns inside as well as coloured outside.
it was very pleasant to chat and have tea.
if u see them go ahead and drink the tea. they are v welcoming.
it is more fun for the ladies, because there was a makeup lady there who would dress them in the period fashion.
here is the link to their other dates
the one on 27sept in soho square , and 28th sept fitzroy square i might go there if i happen to be in the area.
i went to the gym at waterloo to have a look at it before they open on monday 24sept. it is very big, and very light, even though it is below ground.
and they even have classes at no extra cost. they are still giving out the £10.99 monthly membership, though u have to pay the joining fee of about £20. i did not have to because i joined earlier.
and of course everything looks new.
and they have three lots of the same machines which i think is very generous. no waiting around even if the place is crowded.
this saturday and sunday they are having some kind of event going on. there will be head massages etc. so might be nice to go there this weekend.
i heard that the fitness first gym in victoria street has closed 31aug. i think they have moved their members to the other branch in cardinal place.
it would be v crowded there if they have merged the two .
one of the guys in the meetup group i joined asked in the discussion section for guys to join him if they want company in the restaurant festival in london 1oct-15oct. it happens annually when the restaurants offer set menus for £10, £20 ,£50. and obviously it would be nicer to go there with other people rather than alone.
i was tempted until i went to the website and saw the menu they were offering for the price and realised it is quite ordinary fare. but maybe because i was looking at first at the £10 menu, once u look at the £20 ones they seem more worthwhile when u consider the usual price is that much for one main. and u get 3course or so.
i was seeing the one by quince, in mayfair, and even though they do not say what u will get for your money, their normal fare sounds good. though u may not get their signature dishes for that fixed menu price.
(but their drinks will cost more too and wine will be expensive, unless u dont drink wine which many will not agree.) so in the end, u wont really save much, but u will get a fuller meal for a little bit less than normal price.
its been ages since i ate in any of these classy joints.
there were no malaysian restaurants this year, nor vietnamese . maybe because u can get a nice meal for less than £10 if u dont bother with a starter.
i think it is better to just go there and buy the main meal. this applies to malaysian or chinese meals, not western ones, and i think u would eat better for the same price.
the starter is not worth the money. it is only my opinion, i am sure to the western eater used to starter, mains, and dessert, the experience is what they would be happy to pay more for. not to mention the wine. they will want that for sure.
after adding drinks and tips , u would be spending more. it is difficult just from reading the menu to find out which ones are good value for money. here maybe u need someone to recommend.
to me, the main meal is the important one. the starter would just ruin my appetite for the main meal. as for the dessert, i think i wont need that as i expect to be full from the main meal and see no need to eat anything more.
if i want something to round it off, i prefer fruits.
definitely not anything sweet.
but then that is me.
but i think these fixed price menus will mean no trouble splitting the bill because everyone is eating the same price.
the restaurants will hope the diners will drink wine and that should make it v profitable for them.
there are a lot of tv programs about cooking, all them making it like a competition so that they are rushing through their cooking because they have to beat the clock. it is a silly way of cooking, but then tv is about entertaining.
there is a news article about foreign crayfish taking over hampstead ponds, and killing off the local species. they are saying the foreign crayfish are fierce little biters and warned naked swimmer to watch out. haha.
but there have been no naked swimming in the men's ponds for ages.
one angler belonging to the hampstead pond anglers says he caught 100 in 1hr. i wonder how to get those crayfish, they would make delicious eating.
how to join such a society ... anglers specially to catch these crayfish. i would join straight away.haha.
Here is how to catch and cook crayfish.
