simon booked his flight to phuket

london
This morning i was thinking simon might like to go on holiday to phuket, and wondering if he will do so this year.

Well, out of the blue he tells me he has booked his flight to phuket late feb for 2wks.

he said he was browsing the flights and found they cost about £700 all in. others  start off at £500 or so but when he goes into the details  he found they soon end up around that figure after adding all the extras. he said he had to pay £30 extra just to book by credit card.

i dont know which website he booked but i thought that must be about the price that is normal now what with the added extra charges for the individual departure tax.

anyway, i happen to google air fare to phuket and found that STA do one for £570 return all taxes included.  ah well, i wont tell him of it as he had allready booked it and so no point making him feel bad about it.

anyway i always think westerners just dont care about getting the cheapest fare. they just like impulse buying and hang the cost. buy now and pay later, is their way of life. haha.

ah well, it is only money. and if he dont spend it on the ticket  he will spend it on booze instead and that is not going to do his liver any good.
anyway i think the holiday will do him good.
Added 10.1.12 as usual there is a logic to his actions. he had to take the leave or it will be gone forever. And he has not got the luxury of being flexible with the timing of the holiday.
I suppose almost every worker has this time restraint. they have only a limited window to take the holiday so have to pay the price of the flight whatever it costs or they wont be able to have that holiday.

fortunately i dont have that craving to travel . my soul just dont want the bother of it all. oneof the ironies of life, when i got all the time in the world and the money , i find i dont fancy travelling anymore.

i keep thinking of going to cape dagde when summer comes, but i soon got some sense knocked into me and avoid the temptation to actually go there. i have dreams of what it was like years ago, and so feel tempted. but it is nothing like what it was and i know i shall be angry at the changes when i get there.

so why pay good money to get angry ??

I know it will be the same feeling i will get when/if i go to phuket or anywhere really.

i shall have to find alternatives of where to go if i do decide to travel. deep down i dont want to travel , but you know how it is, come summer everyone is going overseas, and so you wonder if you should do it too or u will lose out. it is one of the things about human nature... something like birds flying off for the winter. when one does it , they all start following.

i think i shall be able to resist that urge as i have been doing for 5 or more years now.

but it means there is not much changes or new things to blog about haha. sometimes, i wonder if people who blog feel compelled to do something that they dont feel like doing just so they have something to blog about.

hang on, we have the excuse of the jubilee, and olympics to stay in uk this year.

Added 3.1.12 3.14pm we can always talk about the weather... this morning the wind was v strong, even for london. coming from my gym i could see lots of broken umbrellas littering the street, abandoned by their owners.

i see a group of tourists, a family of 3adults and 2kids, all without umbrellas. i have often wondered why westerners never carry umbrellas.  today seeing all the broken umbrellas made me realise maybe they have a good reason not to bother with umbrellas as strong winds are common in uk and umbrellas no matter how strongly built will collapse. also, the strong winds will always twist the umbrella inside out and you end up struggling to control it. better to wear rain coats with hoodies or a hat. i can see their point.

my umbrella which i found broke a limb some time ago from a gust of strong wind. i  repaired it with tape using two small sticks as a stabiliser, but it had broken again. so i can see why  the westerners dont use umbrellas. you can spend a fortune buying umbrellas constantly having them broken by these strong gusts of wind.

maybe i too shall be converted to wearing rain coats with hoodies.
