do u put the lid down when you flush the toilet?

london
It is a habit which i adopted long ago. i could do it because i have a toilet that have both a seat and a cover and i always bring the lid and seat down whenever i flush.

The chinese thinks it is bad feng shui to leave the toilet uncovered.
and this study that flushing spreads the fecal matter into the air if it is not covered seem to support the feng shui view of keeping the toilet covered and getting people to adopt good habits without telling them why.

maybe these old sayings and feng shui practices are based on practicalities discovered by our ancestors over the ages. who knows??

i did not believe these feng shui proclamations and that was not the reason why i do it.  in fact, i heard another version, that good luck will flow away if u leave the toilet uncovered so exhorting people to always put the lid on. I dont believe that either. i bring the lid down because i did not want the splashes all over the place.

I used to think it was something cooked up by women to make us men always lower the cover and thereby the seat so that women can always have the seat down when they come to use the toilet. haha.

it seems if this study is correct that it is healthful to cover the toilet with  the lid when u flush esp after doing a number 2.

That was the reason why i closed the lid when i flush , and i do it even after pissing. it is because the force of the flush is so strong in my toilet that i can see the stains of the splashes on my wallpaper on the wall next to the toilet. it is another reason why i periodically wash the wall next to the toilet bowl. and the carpet below. even though i have a small disposal carpet surrounding the floor round the bowl.

I clean the bowl often, whenever i see the rim is stained. it is very easy to do . it is just some thing i have done as i found that keeping it clean is so much easier if u do it often. also it looks nice. my toilet is very clean, i dont even need to use blue dye to colour the water in the toilet bowl. I think people use it to mask the dirt in the bowl, but my toilet bowl is pristine. haha.

simon do not bring the lid down of course. i do not ask him to do so, as i know it is very irritating to have someone tell you to always bring the lid down.

i think it is good that my toilet is in a separate wc and not in the bathroom. they have discovered fecal matter on toothbrushes in toilets which are in the bathroom where the toiletries are kept. with the separate wc, this does not apply and it is not that crucial to cover the lid.
anyway my wc has good ventilation, with a large window to the outside which can be fully opened if necessary. all the more reason why i like my wc, unlike the enclosed wc which have to rely on artificial ventilation exhaust fans.

please note, the tests were done in a hospital toilet, so the chances of bacteria there is much more common and also more dangerous to the occupants. in a house situation it is not likely to pose much of a health threat. though a public toilet might pose some risk. like the toilet in a gym, say. though  my gym toilets all have covers. but so far there is no epidermic spread by this practise so i think we need not worry about it too much. haha.
even in malaysia, where u never find any public toilets with lids, sometimes there is no seat even,  we dont hear of diarheal epidermics of c difficile so maybe it is not such a big thing.

The streaks on the wall paper cannot be due to splashes when  we piss, or due to our bad aim surely, because the white streaks are quite high up the wall. though pissing in the dead of night, i would not rule it out. haha.

the thing about men pissing is that it can shoot off in all directions. haha.
