ginger, 4cloves of garlic, red onions, green chillis from brixton market.
Brixton market is really quite close to my flat. Strange why I always thought it is quite far away. It's good to realise it, because then i could go there to get my vegetables. There are not as much fruits being sold unlike what paul L tells me when he went to wood green market. I wonder why, maybe because the locals dont buy them. There are no big bags of ripe tomatoes for £1 like in brewer street, one summer past which i bought to make passata. Or bags of bananas, for £1 like in the milton keynes streetmarket when i used to work there. They were all near to their overripe stage, but perfect for making banana cakes (in those days when i make cakes a lot).
Lots of meat being sold, all unrefrigerated, which is quite offputting if u dont realise they are all thawing from frozen. Apart from the usual chicken, beef, pork, there are cows' hoofs, tails, chicken feet by the bag, (£1.50), tripe. And lots of fish, tilapia being the only name i recognise. haha. Not cheap, 3 or 4 big fishes for £20. All from frozen and thawed when being sold. Does it mean that at the end of the day, they will have to sell it off cheap? as it is not possible to refreeze them?
What i like about the market is that it is the only one that sells 4cloves of garlic for 50p, and ginger, chilli, tomatoes(did not buy those) onions for 50p. Other markets sell more for £1 but to me since i dont use them up so quickly, i prefer smaller portions for half the cost. That way they dont go old and stale.

Funny you mentioned big bags of tomatoes and bananas, coz that's exactly what I bought from the wood green veg stall! and courgettes too. You'll have the chance to eat those tomorrow in our bbq lunch - the forecast now doesn't say it will be thunderstorms for tomorrow, but we'll see. Plan B is for the bbq stuff to all go under the grill/oven, so its been designed to be versatile in that way! Paul L
i am really looking for these big bags of tomatoes, as i want to make passata instead of buying in the supermarkets. even better if the tomatoes are a bit ripe. tesco is selling passata 500mg for 41p, how heavy was ur bag of tomatoes? 3kg? 2kg? even at 2kg for £1 it will still be cheaper than the basic tomatoes in tesco, 33p nowadays instead of 19p in the past. And most of the weight is water added by the manufacturer.it should make good salads too. home made salad dressing is so easy(and so cheap) to do, i am surprised people want to buy the bottled ones and at such inflated prices.
i am looking frwrd to the b-b-q tomorrow. nevermind if there are showers, we can have it in ur kitchen. it is big enough.
